Maritime designers with an inspiring and innovative approach in the maritime field can now enter to compete for the Maritime Designer Award 2016.
This Award, the former Wim Timmers Designer Award, brings attention to the power and creativity of Dutch maritime designers. Candidates have to enter before 1 June. The winner will be announced during the Maritime Awards Gala 2016 on 31 October.
Maritime Designer Award
The Dutch maritime industry stands a lot to gain from renewing the way in which designs come into being. The vision, creativity and determination of individual designers is often decisive for breakthroughs in the area of design technology.
The winner receives € 1000 made available by the "Samenwerkende Maritieme Fondsen" (Cooperative Maritime Funds). Starting this year, this organisation also offers a maximum amount of € 24,000 to the winner for further development of the design method or solution. The jury may decide to allocate funding to the winner to implement this plan.
Candidates
The Maritime Designer Award is meant for individual designers, PhD students and recent graduates, who feel their work and approach deserves more attention and discussion. The award focuses on the way in which a design or part of a ship/offshore vessel comes into being. Examples are original or innovative approaches to the design process, developments of specific tools, possibly including a demonstration.
Criteria
Entries are judged on the following criteria:
- Innovative character of the method
- Multidisciplinary approach
- Technical feasibility and market potential
- Presentation
Sending in a plan for next steps in development, contributes to the assessment.
Designers Conference
A maximum of four designers or design teams will be selected and invited to present their entry at the Designers Conference on 23 June. Immediately after the conference, two nominees will be announced. The winner will be announced at the Maritime Awards Gala, which takes place 31 October.
