Every year, SWZ Maritime takes a look at another country’s maritime industry. After Germany, Brasil, Russia and Singapore, we have now turned our gaze to the north, to Norway, the country with the largest oil reserves in Western Europe and an offshore specialist. An industry in transition due to the dwindling oil price.
In this issue we look at Norway's shipbuilding and shipping industry including an infographic showing the Norwegian shipyards and the ships they build, the aquaculture industry, its maritime university in Trondheim, research into a shipwreck off the Norwegian coast, the Polarled (the first pipeline crossing the Arctic Circle) and Damen Shipyards' Norwegian Sojourn.
Other articles include reports of the German National Maritime Konferenz, where Angela Merkel announced the German governments is taking measures to support the maritime industry, and the second symposium organised by the Maritime Design Forum on the use of CFD in an early phase of ship design. An article on the Happy Star, BigLift's new flagship, carrying 22 workboats concludes the December issue.
