Following the June 2014 special edition on “Marine Engineering”, the editors of SWZ Maritime have taken a new initiative with an “Engines and Propulsion Systems” special.
The 2014 special described major developments in diesel and gas engine concepts and exciting maritime system integration research. Now, the researchers of the Department of Maritime & Transport Technology (M&TT) of TU Delft present currently emerging topics in fundamental research that facilitate these fast developments and to initiate industrial utilisation of this research.
The conceptual foundations of the research portfolio of the marine engineering research carried out at M&TT are Concept Exploration & Design, Dynamic Behaviour, Maintenance Engineering, and Emissions & Fuels. Read all about this research in SWZ Maritime's October issue.
This special also contains a separate article on the propulsion system of the new fishing vessel, the MDV 1 Immanuel. This innovative fishing boat dramatically reduces fuel consumption in an effort to make fishing more profitable.

The October issue also focuses on the upcoming exhibition Europort at Ahoy Rotterdam, which takes place 3-6 November. SWZ Maritime's editors Gerrit de Boer and Antoon Oosting give you the ins and outs of one of the world's largest maritime trade fairs and its extensive conference programme.
In addition, quite a few sponsors of the KNVTS will be present at Europort. In SWZ Maritime's October issue they tell you why you should visit them.
