Entrepreneurs Arnold van Aken and Patrick Noor of Dynamic Marine Systems (DMS) Holland have won the LiveWire Rising Star with their AntiRoll stabilisation system.

The other four contestants were Bird Control Group (Delft), NoFoodWasted (Eindhoven), PostboxNL (Leidschendam) and PowerWindow (Amsterdam).

Rising Star

The Rising Star is awarded every quarter by Shell and the Dutch Chamber of Commerce to an innovative entrepreneur who convinces both jury and public of the value of their innovation. Van Aken and Noor received 2500 euros for their invention, which also won the Maritime Innovation Award last year.

AntiRoll

DMS' AntiRoll stabilisation system uses bent high-aspect fins that make a "flapping bird" movement instead of just rotating. Due to this movement, AntiRoll reduces resistance by 50 to 75 per cent when compared to traditional systems. The reduced resistance results in a higher speed and reduces fuel consumption. The smart hybrid propulsion of the AntiRoll system requires little power. Altogether, the jury was impressed by both the innovative qualities of AntiRoll as well as its sustainable qualities.
