From five candidates, the jury has chosen two nominees for the Maritime Designer Award 2015: Victor Verhulst en Tuur Killaars.
All candidates presented their entry to the jury at the Designers Conference, which took place 27 August. The jury stated Verhulst's and Killaars' entries were both innovative and inspiring. The winner will be announced at the Maritime Awards Gala on 2 November at the RDM in Rotterdam.
The Maritime Designer Award, the former Wim Timmers Designer Award, has been created to bring attention to the power and creativity of Dutch maritime designers.
Victor Verhulst
Victor Verhulst (Hogeschool van Amsterdam / De Voogt Naval Architects), has designed an underwater lounge as part of his graduation project at De Voogt Naval Architects. The see-through lounge can be lowered from the bottom of a yacht giving guests the opportunity to enjoy marine life. The innovative aspect of the design approach is that many different aspects have been taken into consideration: from the customer's experience to the technical feasibility of detail solutions. It is this integrated approach and by delivering top quality that Dutch yacht builders stand out in the international market of superyachts.
Tuur Killaars
Tuur Killaars (Ulstein Design & Solutions) has developed a method that describes the complex interactions between the different elements of a ship design at an early stage. Innovative of this design method is the use of scientific knowledge of the workings of maritime design application networks. Through two design cases, he has demonstrated his method can be used to provide insight into and evaluate the consequences of design changes during the design process.
