(With video) Later this month, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) will officially open its new All-weather Lifeboat Centre in Poole, the UK, bringing the design, production and maintenance of its lifeboat fleet in-house and under one roof for the first time in the organisation's history.
With the new headquarters, the RNLI hopes to save £ 3 M a year once fully operational. The organisation aims to halve coastal drownings the UK and Ireland by 2024. To do so, one of the first tasks of the new Centre will be building a faster 25-knot all-weather lifeboat fleet.
Below a short film presented by David Brook, Engineering & Asset Manager, to give a look inside the newly completed All-weather Lifeboat Centre. Filmed at the end of March when the ALC production teams were just starting to set up their work spaces and production and maintenance of our all-weather lifeboats was just beginning.
