Construction of Heesen Yachts' new 85 metre dry dock at the shipyard in Oss has kicked-off.

The new dry dock was announced in September 2014. Construction work started on 15 June and is scheduled to be completed by October 2016. The official inauguration will take place on 11 November 2016.

The new dry dock is built in response to market demand for ever bigger yachts. Last year, the company delivered 65 metre superyacht Galactice Star, the largest Heesen yacht currently at sea. Currently, the 70 metre Project Kometa is under construction.

Recycled Air

The new shed and its dry dock will be equipped with the latest features to create the best possible working environment. Temperature and humidity controlled, the dry dock floor will be heated and automatic sun tracker lights on the roof will reduce the use of power for lighting by 25 per cent to optimise illumination. A high quality air filtering system further provides optimal conditions for the painting process: 60,000 m3 of air per hour will be filtered through special filters using seventy per cent of the air intake from outside and thirty per cent recycled air.

6502 Cubic Metres of Water

The new shed will be replacing sheds no. 2 and 3, both built in 1985, and will measure 98 x 30 x 22 metres. The dry dock will measure 85 x 17 metres wide x 22 metres high. To make the dock watertight, 2000 cubic metres of concrete will be employed, while 500 tons of steel will be used to build the hall. The dry dock will contain 6502 m3 of water and it will take approximately one day to fill it.
