It is rumoured Royal IHC will cut hundreds of jobs.

The Dutch shipbuilder suffers from a decline in orders caused by the current situation in the oil and gas industry and the relatively high building costs in the Netherlands.

Different news sites suggest hundreds (Nu.nl) or even more than 1000 (FD.nl) jobs will be cut. This is expected to mostly affect temporary workers, but permanent positions will also be included in the planned reorganisation.

IHC so far refuses to comment on the rumors. According to the FD, IHC will reveal its plans to its employees and the unions on Wednesday, 10 June. Moving part of the production of ships to other countries is supposedly also one of the options being considered.

The company has approximately 3000 permanent employees, 2600 of which reside in the Netherlands. The number of temporary workers in the Netherlands alone amounts to some 1300.
