(With link to TV broadcast) Dutch television programme "De ijzeren eeuw" (The Iron Century) dedicated its sixth episode to the secret of the port of Rotterdam.
The episode shows how the port of Rotterdam came into being in the nineteenth century with the help of almost forgotten business man Lodewijk Pincoffs. He and banker Marten Mees succeeded in getting the traditional elite and municipality on board in a unique public-private cooperation. Pincoffs then builds the ports of Feijenoord and bridges and railroads that run straight through the old city. Rotterdam changes from a sleepy provincial town into a global port.
