Royal IHC will design and construct two low-emission dredging vessels for DEME in Belgium. The 7950 and 3000 m3 (expandable to 3500 m3) trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs) are the first to be provided with an LNG installation.

The arrangements for the propulsion and dredge pump drive, combined with the LNG installation will reduce fuel consumption and ensure extremely low levels of emissions.

The design of the TSHDs includes several features that enable them to operate in environmentally sensitive locations including emission controlled areas (ECAs). The turnkey delivery by IHC includes the dredging, electrical and hydraulic installation, as well as the automation system.
