(With video) Preparations are underway in Waasland Port for one of the largest infrastructure projects in Flanders, Belgium, to be established in the coming years: the Deurganckdok Lock.

The lock will be located on the left bank of the Scheldt and the project will cost some 382 million euros.

Largest Lock in the World

The lock is built by the Flemish Region and the Antwerp Port Authority. It will be the second lock in Waasland Port. Together with the Berendrecht Lock in the north of the Port of Antwerp the new Deurganckdok Lock is set to be the largest one in the world. It will measure as long as the Antwerp Meir shopping street and as wide as a nineteen-lane motorway.

The lock is to ensure that Waasland Port – the dock area on the left bank of the Scheldt – can play a full role in the Port of Antwerp's development.

Below a video by Eiffage Benelux (with Dutch commentary) showing the works so far and an animation of the works to come.
