(With video) The pilot of a single engine Cirrus SR-22 aircraft was saved from the sea by the crew of Holland America Line’s ms Veendam.

The aircraft ran out of fuel 253 miles northeast of Maui, Hawaii on Sunday 25 January. At approximately 4:44 pm local time, pilot Louis Morton was able to deploy the aircraft’s airframe parachute system and safely exit the aircraft into a life raft.

The US Coast Guard requested the assistance of Holland America Line’s Veendam to save the pilot from the water. The crew of the Veendam deployed a tender to pull him from the water and bring him safely aboard the cruise ship.

Below a video by the US Coast Guard of both the crash and the Veendam’s rescue.
