Keppel FELS Limited has delivered the jack-up rig XLE-2 to Maersk Drilling, a A.P. Moller-Maersk subsidiary. It is the second of three such rigs that Keppel is building for Maersk.
The rig, which is currently the largest in the world, will be named at a ceremony in Norway in October 2014. The XL Enhanced (XLE) harsh environment jack-up rig has been customised for operations in the North Sea and has been chartered by Det norske oljeselskap ASA (Det norske) for deployment in the Ivar Aasen project in Norway for five years.
The XLE rig has a leg length of 206.8 m and is designed for year round operations in the North Sea, in water depths up to 150 m.
Keppel and Maersk Drilling have partnered on twelve newbuilding rig projects to-date, including the three XLE rigs.
