At around 11 am on Wednesday 23 July, the Costa Concordia began its navigation towards Genoa with an average speed of 2 knots. At the moment, the arrival is planned between Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 July.
The Costa Concordia refloating was completed on Tuesday afternoon. After which final preparations started. With the arrival of the last ferry from Porto Santo, the mooring cables that connected the Costa Concordia to the towers on the shore side were disconnected. The wreck was then connected to two tug boats at the bow.
Environment
Analysis of the sea water has confirmed the water quality remains good. After the Costa Concordia’s departure, environmental monitoring will continue in the upcoming days. The activities for the environmental remediation have started immediately, with the sea bed assessment, the removal of the towers, and the first tests on the removal of the grout bags used to create the false sea bed on which the wreck laid before the refloating.
