By its very nature, the act of dredging and relocating dredged material has an environmental impact. It is important to be able to determine what the extent of the impact may be on the environment.

Evaluation of environmental impact should examine both the short- and long‑term effects, as well as the sustainability of the altered environment. To come to a gooed evaluation, HR Wallingford, the Central Dredging Association (CEDA) and the International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) will organise a two day training course on the environmental impact of dredging.

The course covers the scope and importance of the environmental aspects of dredging projects, the management of dredged material and the typical legislative conditions and controls imposed by international conventions and regional agencies. In addition to presentations of the subjects, participants will be challenged in case studies to apply the principals discussed.

The course takes place 18-19 June in Howbery Park, Wallingford, Oxfordshire, UK.
