Every year, on 25 June, IMO celebrates the Day of the Seafarer. This year, IMO hopes to engage the public with a social media campaign.
The decision to establish 25 June as International Day of the Seafarer was taken at a diplomatic conference in Manila, Philippines, where milestone revisions to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and its associated code were adopted.
Social Media Campaign
As seafarers are the people without whom food, clothes, gifts, gadgets or even basic needs would not reach our doors, IMO wishes to honour them with the Day of the Seafarer. This year, IMO hopes the public will show their appreciation of the seafarer's work by telling what seafarers have brought them through a social media campaign.
To join in the campaign, people have to complete the sentence: Seafarers brought me… and if possible, send in a photo or video and post it on IMO's social media using the hash tag #thankyouseafarer.
