This Thursday, 5 june, two solar boats competing in the Dong Energy Solar Challenge will give a short demonstration in the "Oosterdok" in Amsterdam. In addition, new contestant the Royal Netherlands Navy will christen its first solar boat.

The demonstration and christening will be combined with the Dong Energy Solar Challenge press presentation at the navy barracks in Amsterdam. The Dong Energy Solar Challenge is the largest solar boat race in the world and takes place 28 June to 5 July in the north of the Netherlands.

The solar boats in the demonstration are the Delft University of Technology's solar boat which sails in the top class and the solar boat of the "Noordelijke Hogeschool Leeuwarden" which sails in the Challenge class A.

The Royal Netherlands Navy takes part for the first time and will compete in the V20 class.
