The Beatrixhaven (Beatrix Port), one of the port basins in the Dutch Eemshaven, currently enters the last stage of its extension to become an offshore wind port. Groningen Seaports has invested approximately € 56 million to realise this project.
After completion, the Beatrixhaven has a water depth of 10.4 m below NAP. Most of the work is conducted by the contractors combination Liebregts/Van den Herik. Currently, excavators and dumpers are being deployed, at a later time, a cutter suction dredger is needed. The excavated material will be used to raise the surrounding terrain.
The dredge works are expected to be completed this fall. The complete extension of the Beatrixhaven is to be completed early 2015.
Offshore Wind Port
The Beatrixhaven will mainly be used to ship wind farm parts, which will be laid out on the quays. Once completed, the quay will be 1420 m long. The last part of the quay is specifically designed for heavy transport. The port will be visited by all kinds of special ships, such as the platform ship Pacific Orca.
Groningen Seaports is in talks for selling the remaining 90 ha grounds surrounding the Beatrixhaven.
