Willems RVS Aluminium and Chart Ferox have signed a cooperation agreement for the design, delivery and installation of complete LNG installations for inland shipping.

Chart Ferox, a subsidiary of Chart Industries Inc., is one of the largest LNG technology suppliers in the world. The company builds LNG tanks, pipeline systems and equipment for monitoring, controlling and securing LNG systems. Willems RVS Aluminium has been active in ship building for a long time. Amongst others, the company delivers and installs (deck) pipeline systems and engine rooms.

LNG More Popular

It is expected LNG will become more popular as a fuel for shipping in the coming years as emission regulations for shipping become stricter. With LNG, ships can comply with these regulations. In addition, engines running on LNG are quieter, LNG is cheaper and LNG engines have a longer lifespan and need less maintenance.

Willems and Chart expect LNG will be used on a large scale within shipping within three years, which will require LNG-installations on board ships as well as an LNG bunkering infrastructure in ports.
