Salvage operations of the Costa Concordia have been suspended until a decision is made over which port will scrap the wreck, say Italian media.
According to a statement on the Parbuckling Project website, 'Costa Crociere and Titan Micoperi are working to provide some further documents regarding environmental aspects related to transportation options different from traditional towing.'
Which port will be selected, holds consequences for the floating process and the transportation of the wreck. Salvage works are put on hold until the regulatory body is satisfied with information on these aspects.
Scrapping Port Still to Be Selected
So far, no port has been selected for scrapping the wreck, but allegedly, some Italian and Turkish ports are being considered. According to Italy's civil protection agency, Turkey may be the best option. The ship's owner Costa will pay for the dismantling operation.
Dockwise Vanguard
Boskalis subsidiary Dockwise was contracted last October to tansport the wreck onboard semi submersible heavy lift vessel Dockwise Vanguard.
Costa Crociere and Titan Micoperi hope the issues will soon be solved and still expect to remove the ship in June.
