(With extra pictures) The Kuwait Oil Company’s (KOC) new ASD Tug 3212 has been launched at Damen Shipyards Galati, Romania. The ceremony marks the first in a fourteen terminal tug contract.
This substantial contract consists of two vessel types, a new and existing tug design. The contract comprises nine units based on the ASD 3212 model, providing 80t bollard pull, and five of the ASD 2810 design, providing 50 t bollard pull.
The new tugs will be assisting tankers at near shore loading terminals and at the new single point moorings further offshore. As such, they will also be equipped with powerful FiFi systems.
The contract to design, construct and deliver the series of tugs was signed in September 2012. All vessels are to be constructed by Damen Shipyards Galati.
