(With video and pictures) Discovery Networks Benelux has invited SWZ Maritime editor Hugo Dill to visit Maersk’s Triple E Maersk McKinney Møller during a press event meant to promote their new tv programme “World’s Biggest Ship”.

World’s Biggest Ship will premiere in the Benelux on 19 November on Discovery Channel. The programme will document the building of the world’s largest container ship, the Maersk Triple E at the shipyard in South Korea and portray the people involved, such as the naval architect and supervisors.

Maersk Triple E

Maersk’s Triple E container ships are 400 m long, 59 m wide and can carry 18,000 containers. The three Es stand for Economy of Scale, Energy Efficiency and Environment. The first Triple E ship Maersk McKinney Møller was built in 32 weeks’ time.

Exclusive Video

Among the footage to be broadcast are seven videoclips that feature building of the hull, the two $1 million diesel engines, environmental adaptations, installations, safety systems, et cetera. Discovery Channel has granted permission to SWZ Maritime to publish the first of these that covers assembling the hull. You can find it below.
