The Dutch Royal Navy has nominated three students for the Van Hengel-Spengler award.
The award is for the best operational innovation by young students. The nominees are:
- LTZT3 Jordy van de Mheen (23) – Design of a Submarine Power System Design Tool (SPSDT) that can compare (diesel-electric) submarine performance for different energy storage systems.
- LTZT3 Dennis Grenda (21) – Research into control options for a High Temperature Superconductive demagnetising installation.
- LTZE3 Joris Derksen (26) – Modelling propagation of radar signals, applied in a non-uniform atmosferic environment.
Maritime Awards Gala
The winner will be announced at the Maritime Awards Gala that takes place 31 October at “De Broodfabriek” in Rijswijk, the Netherlands. In addition to the Van Hengel-Spengler award, the KNVTS Ship of the Year award, the KVNR Shipping Award, the VNSI Wim Timmersprijs and the HME Maritime Innovation Award will be presented.
