Five entries have been nominated for the KVNR Shipping Award 2013.
The KVNR Shipping Award rewards shipping companies for their innovations in the areas such as ship design, environmental performance and organisation. The winner will be announced at the Maritime Awards Gala that takes place 31 October.
The nominees are:
Flinter, Borchard Lines and PPG
Flinter Management, charterer Borchard Lines and paint supplier PPG have formed a special cooperation and have together invested in a new sustainable anti-fouling of the MV Rebecca Borchard. They all profit from this collaboration: Flinter saves maintenance costs, Borchard Lines saves fuel and PPG can prove and market its new coating.
HMC: Deepwater Construction Vessel Aegir
Heerema Marine Contractors took delivery of its new Deepwater Construction Vessel Aegir. The ship can perform both pipelaying and construction works and can work in water depths up to 3500 m. It saves on the use of extra ships and time.
MFG: Sustainable Energy Management
The Management Facilities Group (MFG) has conducted research into the energy flow on their fleet and effected energy saving measures as a result, such as reduced turning speed and pitch, a switch between 50 and 60 Hz and moving sensors for all light switches. The shipping company now saves more than $ 2 million a year and reduces emissions to a minimum.
Seazip Offshore Services: Catamaran Crew Tenders Seazip 1 and 2
Seazip Offshore Services has taken delivery of two new fast crew suppliers, the Seazip 1 and 2. Damen Shipyards has built the Twin Axe Bow catamarans that can maintain their high speeds in strong winds and heavy seas due to their pointed, deep bow.
Stemat Marine Services and Neptune Shipyards: 24-person Crew Tender Liz V
Stemat Marine Services and Neptune Shipyards have developed a 24-person crew tender that sails under the Dutch flag with High Speed Passenger Craft certification. This certification is unique for crew tenders and involved a number of strict technical and organisational measures, such as the fact that Stemat had to establish its own crew training centre.
