(With videos) The three nominees for the HME Maritime Innovation Award 2013 are Veth Propulsion, Van Oossanen Naval Architects and Kranendonk Production Systems BV. They were selected from twelve entries.
The winner will be announced 31 October during the Maritime Awards Gala at "De Broodfabriek" in Rijswijk, the Netherlands.
Four Companies before the Jury
On 6 September four companies presented their innovations to the jury. Ulstein Idea Equipment Solutions did not make it to the nominees. The jury consists of experts from shipping, shipbuilding, maritime services, offshore and maritime research. The winning product has to be widely applicable, has to be able to sell well and has to have sufficient export potential.
Veth Propulsion: Hybrid Drive
The Veth Hybrid Drive has two different drives: Diesel-direct en Diesel/LNG electric. Both propulsion systems can be used within their optimum yield curves and the asynchronous electric motor can also be used as a generator.
Van Oossanen: Hull Vane
The Van Oossanen Hull Vane consists of a foil positioned below the hull of a ship or yacht in a specific location by means of struts or sponsons. The device changes the pressure distribution on the hull thereby reducing the resistance. The foil also generates a thrust force.
Kranendonk Production Systems: Edge Preparation System
To improve the quality of coatings in shipbuilding, IMO PSPC demands the preparation (rounding) of plate edges. Automation of this process requires an adaptive machine that perfectly follows plate contours. Kranendonk’s Edge Preparation System can do this and prepares edges of plates for coating with 2R grinding, according to PSPC regulations.
HME Maritime Innovation Award
The HME Maritime Innovation Award is awarded to the most innovative Dutch maritime supplier every year. During the Maritime Awards Gala the KNVTS Ship of the Year Award, KVNR Shipping Award, VNSI Wim Timmersprijs and the Royal Navy's Van Hengel-Spengler Award will also be presented.
