Victaulic, a manufacturer of mechanical pipe-joining systems, introduces Vic-Press, an IACS-approved flame-free system for joining small–diameter stainless steel pipes for maritime use.
Victaulic's Vic-Press system Schedule 10S press-to-connect system can join 15 – 50 mm (½– 2") type 316/316L stainless steel pipe.
No Flame, Arc, Cutting Oil, Chips or Preparation Time
The Vic-Press system requires no flame or arc as with welding, and no cutting oil, chips or preparation time as with threading or flanging. It uses off-the-shelf Type 316 ASTM A-312 Schedule 10S stainless steel pipe, which is readily available.
Hand-Held Pressing Tool
Pipe is cut to length and deburred, marked for visual verification of full insertion, then inserted into a coupling or fitting. A hand-held pressing tool is used to press the coupling/fitting onto the pipe-end, providing a positive mechanical interlock and creating a rigid, permanent, leak-tight joint in seconds.
No Additional Lubrication
An internal pipe stop within the couplings and fittings helps correctly position the pipe to ensure positive joining, while the seal pocket helps protect the gasket during assembly. Vic-Press gaskets are pre-lubricated to simplify the assembly process: no additional lubrication is required for installation.
Once installed, patent-pending press detection technology enables the installer to identify any unpressed joints as the system is filled and tested.
Vic-Press Product Range
The product range comprises couplings, tees, elbows, reducers, end caps, and adapters. Vic-Press couplings and fittings are pressure-rated up to a maximum of 16 bar/232 psi (1600 kPa). They are fire resistant and recommended for use with fluids at temperatures up to 98°C for the standard HNBR gasket seal and up to 121°C for the EPDM gasket seal.
Typical applications are for Class III piping systems including equipment air, fuel and water supply lines.
Vic-Press will be on show at Kormarine in Busan, 22-25 October, and at Europort in Rotterdam, 5–8 November.
