Since 2008, international naval forces have worked with the shipping industry and individual companies to combat piracy in the High Risk Area (HRA). Now NATO and three other organisations have compiled a document with helpful tools for a safe passage.
Four specialist organisations work together to support merchant shipping on a day to day basis – the NATO Shipping Centre (NSC), Maritime Security Centre Horn of Africa (MSCHOA), UK Maritime Trade Operations Dubai (UKMTO) and Maritime Liaison Office Bahrain (MARLO).
Planning a Safe Passage
The organisations provide a range of products and services to companies, ships’ masters and their service providers to assist them in planning and conducting a safe passage through the Piracy HRA.
Now there is a single PDF document that describes these tools and how they support the various the stages of a transit. Download the document here.
