For the first time, the world's largest container ship, the CMA CGM Marco Polo, has arrived in the port of Rotterdam. The ship arrived on Saturday night, 15 December and has a 16,000 teu capacity. The ship is (un)loaded at the ECT Delta Terminal on the Maasvlakte.
The ship, which is 396 m long, 54 m wide and has a depth of 16 m, was built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in South Korea.
The ship sails in the FAL 1 Asia-Europe service of French ship owner CMA CGM and replaces one of the 11.000 teu ships on that route. The CMA CGM Marco Polo is the first of three 16.000 teu ships. It left from Ningbo, China, early November and will return there 23 January after stops in Shanghai, Xiamen, Hongkong, Chiwan, Yantian, Port Kelang, Tanger, Southampton, Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, Le Havre, Malta, Khor Al Fakkan and Jebel Ali.
