From now on, employees of the Rotterdam based companies Alphatron, Evides and Van Oord can use a ferry, the Alphaliner, to travel to work. This should make travelling to work easier for them as well as ease traffic congestion on the Brienenoord bridge.

The Alphaliner is an initiative of the three companies and "De Verkeersonderneming" (this cooperation organisation was created in 2008 by the city of Rotterdam, the Rotterdam Port Authority and the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment/Rijkswaterstaat) and is meant to battle increasing congestion on the A16 to and from Rotterdam.

Three Month Trial

Employees can park their cars on the other side of the Maas river in a parking garage and use the ferry to get across to docks at Alphatron and Van Oord. Crossing takes a couple of minutes. The ferry sails for a trial period of three months. The company Watertaxi will service the connection.
