The Coral Energy is world’s first direct driven dual-fuel ice class 1A LNG carrier. On the 7th of December 2012 the vessel's naming ceremony takes place at the Cruise Terminal Rotterdam. Watch a video about the ship that was also nominated for the KVNR Shipping Award 2012 with this news post.
Development of the Ship
The development of the Coral Energy started in 2010 in close cooperation with Norwegian gas provider Skangass. The design of the ship makes it possible to deliver LNG to all sizes of terminals in an environmentally friendly way. The ship provides LNG as a cleaner energy source to remote places and to smaller terminals where the LNG can for example be used as bunker fuel for other ships, power generation, and retail distribution.
Building the Vessel
The Coral Energy is being build at the Neptun Werft in Rostock, Germany. The vessel was successfully launched on the 30th of September.
