With 820 maritime professionals attending, this year’s edition of the Maritime Awards Gala, with four different awards, was completely sold out. Next year a new award will be added. During the evening, four awards were presented, the VNSI Wim Timmersprijs, the HME Maritime Innovation Award, the KVNR Shipping Award and the KNVTS Ship of the Year Award. The Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment, Melanie Schultz van Haegen was supposed to present the awards, but she cancelled at the last minute, leaving the awards’ jury presidents to present the awards. Just like last year, the evening’s hostess was Anita Witzier.

Dutch Royal Navy Presents Van Hengel-Spengler Award in 2013

Acting chairman of the Maritime Awards Foundation, Pim van Gulpen, announced that starting 2013, the Dutch Royal Navy will also present an award, the Van Hengel-Spengler Award. This award will be presented to the best operational innovation. The award is meant for people studying of working in maritime industry who through research or practical innovation enhance military-maritime performance.

Maritime Week

The Maritime Awards Gala is the kick-off of the second edition of the Maritime Week. From 8 to 17 November 2012, Dutch maritime industry is placed in the spotlights. For more information abou the events during this week, please visit maritimeweek.nl.

The Maritime Awards Gala is organised by the Maritime Awards Foundation (“Stichting Maritieme Prijzen”) which represents the Holland Shipbuilding Association, the KVNR, KNVTS, NISS and HISWA.
