Sometimes an old ship’s reconstruction is based on a wreck found either under water or ashore. In such a case, ship archaeologists, ship designers and seamen all work together, but this is a rare situation. Now, a unique opportunity presents itself to change this.

From 8 until 12 October the thirteenth  International Symposium on Boat and Ship Archaeology takes place at the Navy grounds near the Maritime Museum in Amsterdam. A week long presentations will be given on ship archaeological finds and their meaning. Finds from ancient Egypt will be discussed as well as the meaning of the 21 century find of the Irish currach.
