Last week, the in July 2012 founded Dutch National LNG Platform met to discuss the participants' future plans to increase the use of LNG in transport. Two Dutch ministries presented plans for two different LNG studies.
100 Ships and 500 Trucks on LNG
The Platform was founded in view of the Green Deal Rhine and Wadden and connects companies and authorities who work on introducing LNG as a fuel in transport. The goal is to have 50 inland ships and 50 ocean going ships sailing on LNG by 2015 as well as 500 trucks driving on LNG.
Research into LNG
The Dutch authorities announced to be conducting two LNG studies. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment lets TNO/CE/ECN conduct research into the different routes of introducing LNG as a primary energy source for transport. The focus of this study is on chain analysis and environmental impact.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation will have the social costs and benefits of LNG researched. Both studies should be finished early 2013. In addition, both ministries will commit to developing (inter)national legislation for LNG.
