Ecorys has delivered the final report of the Blue Growth study for DG Mare. The study provides policy-makers with future policy options to support sustainable economic growth and employment from the oceans, seas and coasts.

Sustainable use of maritime resources can potentially contribute to the growth of maritime sectors in Europe. These include sectors such as maritime trade and transport; shipbuilding and ocean engineering; food supply; health care and ecosystems; energy and raw materials; life, work and leisure in coastal areas and coastal protection. The European Commission wants to strengthen this growth through targeted policy measures.

Growth Potential

Ecorys has advised the European Commission on how to utilise this growth potential. The study contributes to laying the foundations for a future European Blue Growth strategy, which is part of the Europe 2020 strategy for a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy. The project was executed by Ecorys in partnership with Deltares and Océanic Développement from December 2010 to August 2012. The report can be downloaded from the Ecorys website.
