Maersk Line will restructure its global HQ function (Centre). The new centre organisation will be presented on 12 June and be initiated immediately thereafter. It is expected that a consequence of the new organisation is a reduction of the number of positions in the centre by approximately 400, of which 250 in Copenhagen.
The new centre organisation follows the substantial changes the company has made to its global organisation (non-centre) since 2008. This included de-layering, off-shoring of work to shared service centres, simplification of processes and empowering the frontline. According to the organisation the results have been good, but more steps are needed.
Execution and Service Tasks to Country Offices
A key objective of the restructuring is faster decision making. Furthermore, execution and service tasks currently housed in the centre will be moved to the country offices in the global organisation as well as its shared service centres.
Employee Consultation Committee
An Employee Consultation Committee will be established, which thye company will consult about the expected redundancies as also required by Danish legislation.
Maersk Line employs 25,000 people, including 2,200 in Centre. Centre locations include offices in Copenhagen, London, Singapore, Mumbai, Pune, and Manila.
