Have you innovated maritime designing? The enter your innovation for the VNSI Timmersprijs 2012. You can submit your entry until 27 April.

Dutch shipbuilders and maritime suppliers are mostly active in markets where a design’s quality is decisive for acquiring projects. This makes a designer’s role in a company an important one. Although the end result gets a lot of attention, the design process does not. Let alone that fellow designers discuss their designs with each other. This is a missed opportunity as companies can learn a lot from each other without revealing competitive sensitive information.

Stimulating Communication

To stimulate communication between designers, ir. Wim Timmers, former shipyard director, started awarding the annual VNSI Timmersprijs to the best designer. The award is meant for young designers, doctoral candidates and graduates who feel their work deserves more attention and discussion.

Criteria for the VNSI Timmersprijs

The VNSI Timmersprijs focuses on the way a design or parts of ships’ systems come into being. Eligible for the award are for example an original design method for a specific ship type or a ship’s system, a new propulsion system setup, an improved hull form, a new method to quickly create possible layouts that comply with stability requirements, prediction methods for noise and vibration, weight or costs, a model for economic analysis, etc.
