Familiarise yourself with K&M Yachtbuilders and its work. On Saturday 21 April 2012, the shipyard that builds aluminium custom-built sailing yachts opens its doors to the public for the eighth time.

From 10 am to 4 pm everyone will be welcome in Makkum to try and test various yachts under construction (approximately 7), several ships outside on the water ready to sail (approximately 10) and two presentations (12 and 2 pm).

From 45 to 88 Feet

Eeuwe Kooi, Director and owner of K&M says the Open Day is of i K&M Yachtbuilderserest to people planning to have a custom-built sailing yacht built, to build one themselves and/or sailing enthusiasts. ‘During the Open Day you will have the opportunity to see many yachts at the same time. Every year, owners of a K&M yacht moor in Makkum for the Open Day; these are yachts that are not normally in our yard. With so many ships alongside each other you can see clearly how each owner made his or her own choices,’ explains Eeuwe.

Bestevaer, Stadtship and Bestewind

All of the K&M “lines” will be represented: Bestevaer (aluminium), Stadtship and Bestewind. There will be four examples of the Bestewind 50 – the polyester sister of the Bestevaer – as well as two completely custom-built yachts, the Icon 48 Leeloo and the German Frers 88ft Tulip, which will be the largest yacht of the day. The Bestevaer 45ST Africa is the smallest.

Presentations

This year we have two very different but equally interesting talks.
– At12pm renowned designer Gerard Dijkstra will talk about the MK II of the Bestevaer 53ST. This is a ship he designed; K&M built it for him and he mainly uses it to sail in cold regions.
– At 2 pm the family De Mol will tell about their sailing trip around the world in the Bestewind 50 Abel T. together with their young children.

Other activities
Besides the ships under construction and the ships outside, K&M has organised a number of other activities to ensure that visitors enjoy a great day out. The well-known German (yacht) interior designer and builder Alv Kintscher will be there with a stand and will talk about his way of working and his choice for mainly natural materials. You will also find a number of suppliers, including Yanmar, Esthec, Cuno, RayMarine and KVF Stanfit who present their products. If you are looking for a new outfit, the nautical lifestyle shop ‘Zilt, kleding van de Kust’ is just the ticket.

You do not have to register for the Open Day and children are most welcome.
