Marin’s new Depressurised Wave Basin (DWB) combines a depressurised towing tank with a wave maker, creating a world’s first. The DWB was officially inaugurated on March 19 by Maxime Verhagen, the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation. https://www.swzonline.nl/weblog/3[Watch a video about the DWB] or https://www.swzonline.nl/fotoverslag/67[the photo album of the opening] on SWZonline.

It has never been possible before to test ships and offshore structures in such realistic operational conditions and the research institute is confident the DWB will make an important contribution to improving safety and the efficiency of propulsion, as well as reducing resistance and improving energy efficiency.

Investment of € 17 Million

This huge project, representing an investment of € 17 million, started in February 2010. The DWB contains 35 million litres of water and took two weeks to fill.
