The Spliethoff Group has signed a contract with Alfa Laval Aalborg to trial the largest scrubber ever installed on board a vessel. With this trial, both companies endeavour to scale up scrubber technology to prepare the maritime industry for future environmental challenges, such as reduction of vessels’ sulphur emissions.

The first scrubber to operate with several exhaust gas inlets in combi (both main engines and auxillary engines) at 28,000 kWh engine power is planned to be installed on a Spliethoff Group vessel during her dry dock period in summer 2012.

Complying with SECA Regulations

With the sulphur emission reducing scrubber, the Spliethoff Group prepares its vessels for the more stringent IMO emission regulations in European and American SECA waters becoming applicable as of 2015.
