Zhejiang Dredging (China) has contracted IHC Merwede to build an environmentally friendly deep-water dredger, the IHC Beaver 4040. The cutter suction dredger will be optimised to work on lake and reservoir dredging projects.
The dredger, which will be built at the components factory of IHC China Support in Guangzhou, is the first cutter suction dredger designed to dredge to a depth of 40 metres. The vessel can cut accurately at greater depths and can be equipped with a sustainable cutter head. The dredger can be disassembled and easily moved so that it can be transported by road to extremely remote reservoir locations.
