Jack-Up Barge and the German Bard Group have agreed on a multi-year charter for two of Jack-Up Barge’s self-elevating platforms. The contract value is estimated at over 100 million euros. The platforms will be deployed in the largest German offshore wind farm to date.
The Bard Offshore 1 wind farm is located some 90 km northwest of the German East-Frysian island of Borkum in the North Sea. Once completed, it will count 80 Bard 5.0 type wind turbines and cover approximately 60 km2. The project is supported by the European Commission’s European Energy Programme for Recovery (EEPR) with a grant of 53.1 million euros.
Powering 400,000 Households
Installation started in March 2010. So far, sixteen wind turbines have been connected to the grid, delivering approximately 80 MW. Once completed, the wind farm can supply 400MW, enough for 400,000 households.
