MAN Diesel & Turbo signed a contract on 7 July 2011 in Frederikshavn, Denmark, for the supply of four MAN 8L32/40 engines to power a seismic vessel ordered by Sanco Shipping of Norway. With this contract the company hopes to strengthen its position in the Norwegian offshore market.

The vessel will be built by Kleven Maritime at Myklebust shipyard in southern Norway and is scheduled for delivery by 31 May, 2013. The four-stroke engines will be constructed in Augsburg, headquarters of MAN Diesel & Turbo.

Stiff Competition

The company attributes the landing of the new order to its presence in Aalesund, an important European offshore centre, and focused activity on this significant segment. The order is strategically important to the company. Sanco Shipping is one of the fastest growing players in the seismic survey business locally and it chose MAN power despite stiff competition. MAN Diesel & Turbo also views the order as another step in its targeted strategy of increasing the market share in the Norwegian offshore market.
