On 5 July the LNG Tanker Arctic Voyager arrived at the Gate Terminal in Rotterdam. It is the second LNG tanker to dock in the port. Last month the first LNG-tanker arrived.

Prior to the start of the commercial operation of Gate Terminal in September, the installations are being subjected to extensive testing for a number of months. In the first phase, the tanks and the pipelines will be cooled down to -162 degrees Celsius. This is the temperature at which the gas comes from the tanker and is stored in the three storage tanks at the terminal.

Twelve Billion Cubic Metres

The transit capacity of the terminal is twelve billion cubic metres of natural gas per year. Gate Terminal is the first LNG terminal in the Netherlands and will contribute significantly to the security of supply of natural gas in the Netherlands and the rest of Europe. Because this terminal connects the Netherlands to gas flows from the whole world, the position of the Netherlands as a gas roundabout for Europe is further strengthened.
