Wärtsilä introduces a new midsize range of waterjet solutions that features convenient ‘plug & play’ installation, which simplifies the shipyard work, and standard inboard hydraulics for ease of maintenance and better economic and environmental performance. The series is intended for ferries, yachts and naval vessels.
The new midsize series consists of stainless steel jets that include all sizes from 510 to 3250 mm. The company is the only supplier of both midsize and the lower range of large waterjet applications in a single product.
Stainless Steel
Although aluminium is a widely used and accepted material for jet fabrication, Wärtsilä has chosen for abrasion resistant stainless steel to conserve the carefully designed shape of the stator blades in order to retain high levels of fuel efficiency. The impeller and shaft are also constructed from stainless steel. These features reduce short-term maintenance requirements.
Plug and Play
The waterjet series comes in a fast and easy ‘plug & play’ installation module to lower installation costs and simplify build schedules. The packaged delivery has inlet duct shapes optimized for different hull forms, eliminating the need for inlet duct construction. The integral inlet duct designs were researched by the company’s Computational Fluid Dynamics Department to achieve optimal hydrodynamic properties.
No Oil Retaining Elements
The hydraulic system has no oil retaining elements protruding outside of the vessel’s transom. This not only eases maintenance, but is important from an environmental point of view.
