Dometic Marine has launched a new air-cooled system which is specifically designed for vessels and platforms that cannot operate water-cooled equipment, such as jack-up barges and rigs. Mounted on an exterior pedestal, the self contained system features corrosion-resistant components to offer a durable and robust solution, even in harsh salt-air environments.
Corrosion-Resistant Coating
Water-cooled air conditioning equipment cannot be operated on vessels and platforms that are jacked-up out of the water. The air-cooled equipment, however, is typically less resilient to the effects of salt air and therefore can corrode more easily. Dometic’s new system is housed within a stainless-steel chassis and incorporates a compressor, condenser, evaporator, blower and electrical components. The condenser, evaporator coils and evaporator fans are protected by a corrosion-resistant coating. The unit is mounted above the deck to ensure further durability and enhanced operation within the offshore environment.
Conserving Power
The axial condenser fan is powered by a long-life DC motor for heavy-duty applications. The system features a Passport I/O digital control and NEMA2-rated electric box which can be remotely mounted anywhere to save space onboard. To conserve power, the system incorporates a high efficiency rotary compressor and four-row evaporator coils with efficient rifled tube and copper coils.
