Together with Delft University of Technology (TUDelft) and Inholland, MARIN has organised the traditional design and sailing contest. Students were challenged to design, manufacture and sail the fastest model sailing boat in Wageningen.

This year ‘CounterWeight’ was the winning boat, designed and sailed by a team of Inholland. SubZero, also made by Inholland, won the innovation price.

Speed, Manoeuvrability and Innovation

The sailing boats were judged on speed, manoeuvrability and innovation. Every year the rules are changed a little to prevent copying from previous years. This year the ship had to have a monohull with a maximum length of 90 cm, a width of 30 cm and a depth of 40 cm. In addition, four engines were allowed to be added to operate the sails and rudders. This gave students the opportunity to apply advanced techniques.

Nautical Successes

The contest is part of the education programme of students with a minor in sailing yachts at the TU Delft and Inholland. The event took place at MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands) at Wageningen. With the annual contest MARIN wants to give students the opportunity to let their own ideas become nautical successes.
