Abis Shipping’s 3900 dwt MP Heavy Cargo vessel with open top and superstructure up front, the Abis Belfast, has been awarded with the KVNR Shipping Award. This heavy cargo vessel has a dwt of no more than 3900 mT.
The ship’s layout enables the vessel to transport ‘oversize’ shipments and can therefore compete with both ships in its own weight class as well as larger heavy cargo ships.
Nominee M.O.L. Netherlands
M.O.L. Netherlands designed the Propeller Boss Cap Fins (PBCF), which save 5% in fuel and increase a vessel’s speed. The PBCF enhances the propeller’s efficiency by reducing the hub vortex. The PBCF’s have a beneficial effect on the wear of other components as well.
Nominee Nederlands Loodswezen
The Loodswezen has bought three new jetdriven tenders with TIEB 11 engines. The vessels are equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction and Particle Matter filters reducing both nitrogen and carbon dioxide emissions by 99 per cent.
Nominee Stena Line
Stena Line has applied several energy saving and environmental features on board the new Stena Hollandica. Over 3 million euros has been invested in sustainable solutions, most notable of which are Selective Catalytic Reduction and on shore power supply in the port of Rotterdam.
The award was presented yesterday during the fifth Maritime Awards Gala.
