On 29 November, the Van der Weele Schipper Foundation and the Maritime Museum Rotterdam organise a symposium on the benefit of and need for a scientific study into the history of modern shipbuilding. the title of the event is: ‘Past with a Future, the Importance of Shipbuilding History’. It is now possible to register.

There will be speakers from modern shipbuilding, such as IHC CEO Goof Hamers, as well as academics involved in the history of corporations and engineering. Can we learn from the past? Is the Dutch shipbuilding’s turbulent past relevant to today’s dynamics? These are just some of the questions discussed.

Benefits of Corporate History

One of the topics addressed is the objective, scientific, corporate history Shell assigned the University of Utrecht to write several years ago. How did the company and science benefit from this knowledge? Both Shell and the historian prof.dr. Keetie Sluyterman will discuss their findings.

A panel of experts will respond to questions from the audience.

Location: Maritime Museum Rotterdam. Start: 1.15 pm. Admission is free of charge, but registering is obligatory. For the full programma and registering, please visit https://www.maritiemmuseum.nl/website/index.cfm?fuseaction=evenement.show[maritiemmuseum.nl].
