The ‘British Company of the Year’ award — presented to Lloyd’s Register at a glittering gala dinner on September 7 in Shanghai, hosted by His Royal Highness The Duke of York — celebrates British organisations which best demonstrate the UK’s commitment to developing a sustainable business partnership between the UK and China.
Lloyd’s Register beat 39 leading British organisations to win the accolade, including heavyweights such as banking giant Standard Chartered, GKN Drive Shafts, SECCO (a joint-venture between BP and Sinopec) and the food and beverage leaders, Costa Coffee.
Huge Honour
“What I am most proud of is that this award has pitted Lloyd’s Register against the best British companies currently operating in China,” said Nick Brown, Lloyd’s Register Asia’s Country & Marine Manager, China, as he collected the award on behalf of Lloyd’s Register Group. “It is very rare that such diversified, cross-industry awards take place and to be judged to be the best against such strong competition is a huge honour, especially as this comes in our 250th year,” said Brown. “The award has to be dedicated to all Lloyd’s Register Group employees who have helped to build a sustainable business in China. This dedication stretches back to the pioneers who established our first office in Shanghai more than 140 years ago.
About the Award
The award ceremony and gala were organised by UK Trade and Investment and the UK Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010. The ceremony was held the day before UK National Day at the Expo. UK Trade & Investment Chief Executive, Sir Andrew Cahn, presented the award to the Lloyd’s Register Asia team.
