In an extension of their existing cooperation in the development of 2-stage turbocharged medium speed diesel engines, turbocharging specialist ABB Turbo Systems and power solutions provider Wärtsilä intend to cooperate with a third partner, aftertreatment specialist Hug Engineering, based in Elsau, Switzerland. Together they plan to develop an innovative compact selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system tailored to operation with two-stage turbocharging.

Under the envisaged agreement, the companies will target a further expansion of flexible engine operation at reduced NOx emissions and optimized fuel consumption, as well as savings in first and life cycle costs.

A Further Step in Co-operation

In April 2010, ABB Turbo Systems and Wärtsilä started cooperating on a new, groundbreaking application of two-stage turbocharging on large diesel engines.
